Pelvic Floor Therapy

Woman with hands over uterus

1 in 5 of the population suffer with pelvic floor and bladder dysfunction at some point in their life.

These issues can become more prevalent during pregnancy and the perimenopause.

Conditions that may benefit from treatment:

  • Pelvic Floor Muscle Weakness

  • Pelvic Floor Muscle overactivity

  • Bladder dysfunctions including Stress Urinary Incontinence, Urgency , Frequency, Urge Urinary Incontinence, and Overactive Bladder Syndrome

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse- 50% of women are presenting with some kind of prolapse

  • Pelvic Pain

  • Vaginissimus

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) :

Many women find a cough or sneeze, a giggle or laugh, a bend over, running or a jump can cause them a leak. Due to increased abdominal pressure generated, pelvic floor muscles need to be up to holding on .

Rehabilitation of the pelvic floor to regain strength and function plus simple lifestyle changes can stop the worry and allow return to all those activities you wish you could still do .

Urgency and Urge Incontinence :

A sudden desire to go to the loo and sometimes you just can’t hold on. Changes in hormones can cause this , and changes in your pelvic floor function . Rehab can make the changes you need to feel in control and live your life with out looking for the nearest toilet all the time .

Pelvic Pain:

Dyspareunia, vaginissimus and vulvodynia are troublesome. Often due to pelvic floor tension, addressing the why and using manual and release and breathing techniques can allow relaxation and reduction in these symptoms.
